Swimming at the devils pool is one amazing and adrenaline filled experience that everyone must experience.
Devils pool is a deep arm chair shaped rock pool on the edge of the Victoria Falls, it is nature’s pool caused by erosion creating a barrier between the pool and the drop to the bottom of the Victoria Falls.
The Devils pool trip starts from the deck of the royal Livingstone Hotel to Livingstone Island. If you are in Zimbabwe you have to cross the border to the Zambian side in order to get to the starting point.
Livingstone Island is the place where David Livingstone had a first glance of the majestic Victoria Falls and he declared the scenes as they must have been first glanced by angels on their flight. The island offers best scenery of the falls and it will be great for you to walk in the footsteps of the great missionary David Livingstone.
Visitors to the Victoria Falls can either stay on the Zambian side or Zimbabwean side as there is nice and comfortable accommodation on either sides. I would recommend that you view the falls from both sides the Zambian side and the Zimbabwean side as they both have unique view and scenery of the Mighty Victoria Falls.
SWIMMING AT THE DEVILS POOL.
After checking the falls in all its splendor and glory , you then walk to the edge of the Zambezi River where a guide will lead you to the natural pool the devils pool by explaining that you have to swim to the rocky place and sometimes upstream due to the currency.
Nothing to worry about here as there is always a safety rope along the edge of the falls and there are guides in font, behind and alongside to help when swimming to the rocky place.
The rocky place is where you will sit as you wait your turn to swim in the devils pool, when it’s you r turn, you leap into the water there is a guide sitting at the edge of the falls waiting for you, the other guide will be taking photos as you swim while the other guide will just be watching to ensure you don’t swim to places you are not supposed to be at.
So the Devils pool is open from July to mid march the guides there has been doing the tour for many years and they know when the water levels switch from safe to unsafe.
There has never been an incident of death or accident at the devils pool so there isn’t anything to worry about when it comes to the safety of the place, of course being at the edge of the falls is not something that could be done carelessly but it’s an adventure you cannot afford to miss.
